The Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) demands that Facebook better protect users’ personal data.
What happened: the PPC issued a statement, detailing its request to Facebook. The company should better communicate security issues, recognise its responsibility in monitoring applications providers on its platform, and report to the Commission on the data breach disclosed at the end of September.
What are the consequences? None for now, as there is no investigation and the PPC’s request is not a mandatory order.
What happens next? Facebook has promised to address the request, and will publish detail of how to do it on its Japanese website. The PPC has announced it will cooperate with other DPAs in the world to share information and take the appropriate measures against data breaches.
