The Mexican Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) has completed the free-up of the 600MHz band, having approved the reallocation of the last DTT services still operating in the band. This makes Mexico the first country to make the 600MHz available for mobile services, and particularly for 5G. Since 2015, the IFT has relocated to other bands more than 200 TV channels across different cities in the country. Having completed this process, the IFT is now looking to allocate 70MHz to mobile services through auctions. There is currently no time frame for the allocation; however, it is understood that this could happen as early as the first quarter of 2019.
