The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has started an investigation on Facebook, following the data breach suffered by the Company the previous week, related to about 50 million accounts. The investigation will examine whether Facebook has appropriately complied with the requirement to take “appropriate technical and organisational measures” to ensure the security and safeguarding of the personal data it processes. Facebook had announced the incident on 28 September, stating it had reset log-on for 90 million accounts as a precaution, and temporarily disabled a feature (“view as”) believed to be at the heart of the vulnerability.
