Google is appealing the European Commission’s decision of July 2018, in which Google was fined €4.34bn for imposing “illegal restrictions” on Android device manufacturers and mobile operators, to strengthen its dominant position on the internet search market. Google was also asked to stop such conducts within 90 days of the decision. Google has also set out how it will comply. As of 29 October 2018, it will allow device makers to build “non-compatible” devices for the EEA area; it will enable them to license the Google mobile application suite separately from the Google Search App or the Chrome browser; and it will offer separate licences to the Google Search app and to Chrome.
