The French Government has established a roadmap to facilitate the development and deployment of 5G and follows on from the agreement reached between the Government, Arcep and mobile operators in January 2018, aimed at rapidly achieving a high standard of mobile coverage across the whole of France. The roadmap includes several 5G pilot projects, the allocation of new 5G frequencies, the commitment to a commercial rollout in at least one major city by 2020 and 5G coverage along main transport routes by 2025. The first 5G trials are already underway (or in the planning stage) across eleven cities and with this announcement there will be eleven new trials in the Ile-de-France region, including three associated with autonomous vehicles
