The Chairs of the UK Select Committee for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and of the Canadian Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy, and Ethics, have invited Mark Zuckerberg to an unprecedented joint hearing.
Background: Both committees have been trying to get hold of Facebook’s CEO for some time, with no success. Zuckerberg has sat in hearings with the US Senate and Congress earlier this year, and with the EU Parliament, but declined requests from the DCMS Committee.
What’s new? In an absolute first, parliamentary committees of two different countries join forces and request a hearing of an “international grand committee” on fake news. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the UK parliament on Tuesday 27 November 2018.
What happens now? Facebook, and Mark Zuckerberg, are yet to respond to the request. It is currently unclear whether this time he will say yes.
