Three UK communicates further steps towards 5G rollout

Three UK has continued its preparations for the rollout of 5G with an enhanced agreement with SSE Enterprise Telecoms to connect Three’s network to BT exchanges. The agreement will connect the Three network to an initial 170 BT exchanges and up to 270 more longer-term, which will support fibre deployments to circa 6,000 masts in the urban areas of the UK. Separately, Three has signed an agreement with Nokia to build a fully virtualized 5G-ready core network. Both announcements follow Three’s recent strategy update which stated that it intends to be part of the leading pact with 5G rollouts given the large portfolio of 5G suitable spectrum.
