The German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has published a draft of the rules for the upcoming 5G spectrum auction, scheduled to take place in Q1 2019 following repeated delays. The auction includes 2x60MHz in the 2GHz band (of which 2x40MHz will be available from 2021, and 2x20MHz as of 2026), and 300MHz unpaired in the 3.6GHz band (3.4GHz–3.7GHz) will be auctioned. Coverage obligations will apply, to be fulfilled in three stages between 2019 and 2025. The draft will now be reviewed by BNetzA’s advisory council on 24 September, with the view to adopt a final decision in November.
